生物活性：Zinc Protoporphyrin (Zn(II)-protoporphyrin IX) 是一種具有口服活性和競(jìng)爭(zhēng)性的血紅素加氧酶-1 (HO-1) 抑制劑，可顯著減弱 (PG) 對(duì) H _{的保護(hù)作用2}O₂^[1]。鋅原卟啉被用作個(gè)體孕婦和兒童鐵缺乏癥的篩查標(biāo)志物，也可結(jié)合血紅蛋白濃度評(píng)估人群鐵狀況^[2]。鋅原卟啉具有抗癌活性^[3]。

體外：Zinc Protoporphyrin (Zn(II)-protoporphyrin IX; 5 μM; 72 hours) 導(dǎo)致晚期凋亡和壞死細(xì)胞的比例從對(duì)照組的 10.9% 增加到 72 小時(shí)后的 30.4%^[3]。
Zinc Protoporphyrin（1.25-40 μM；48 或 72 小時(shí)）對(duì)腫瘤細(xì)胞產(chǎn)生抑囊/細(xì)胞毒性作用^[3]。
Zinc Protoporphyrin（2.5、5 μM；48 或 72 小時(shí)）導(dǎo)致細(xì)胞周期 G1 期細(xì)胞的劑量和時(shí)間依賴性減少^[3]。
Zinc Protoporphyrin（1.25-40 μM；48 小時(shí)）導(dǎo)致裂解（活性）caspase-3 的積累^[3]。

體內(nèi)：原卟啉鋅（12.5、25、50 mg/kg 腹腔注射；12.5、50 mg/kg 口服；從第 7 天到第 19 天）發(fā)揮劑量依賴性抗腫瘤作用，表現(xiàn)為延緩腫瘤生長(zhǎng)^[3]。
